De Ponti / Magni is an artistic duo born in the 2012 by Stefano De Ponti, organizer of sounds and images from Milan, and Emanuele Magni, engineer and electronic musician from Lecco.
What is your musical background and how did you decide to produce your own materials in the first place?
We come from a listening training rather different. Within our path, we don’t give much importance to our individual tastes, ranging from classic to electroacoustic, electronics to noise, embracing acoustic ecology and field recording practices. Instead, we give great importance to listening and respect for individual work, above all through a sincere and uncompromised confrontation. Over the last few years we have developed different attitudes and skills that have proved to be complementary: Stefano in his research attributes much importance to the meta-narrative aspect, while Emanuele develops an attitude that enhances the sound as a bearer of meanings in self. So our collaboration is born naturally and is continuing without impositions or restrinctions and in a very productive way. Odontoblast:
What is your compositional plan and how would you define your music?
A mix of practices, it depends… we don’t have a fixed rules, sometimes we playng for many hours and after a radical selection we define the sound in post production, sometimes we work a lot on the structure before to start playing any instruments and sometimes we stay in Grotta speaking, smoking and waiting something that not arrives…
We don’t have a label to describe a music… it’s a finding!
What are you currently working on?
A lot of things individually, maybe too many! As a duo we are finishing the sound shape for a video installation by Federico Lupo (http://www.vonholdenstudio.com/), based on the composition we proposed for this compilation. We also have a lot of sounds and compositions we are working on, but at moment nothing is ready and we don’t have hurry or any dead line about it… it’s very cool sensation!
